Holiday light contest
Monroeville Recreation and Parks Department invites all residents of the municipality to take part in a holiday light contest. All you need to do to participate is turn on your lights between 6 and 9 p.m.
Winners will be selected from each of the municipality’s seven wards. A recreation board member will leave a congratulatory letter at each winner’s residence.
A grand prize winner will be selected from among the seven on Dec. 12.
Winners will be contacted, and they will be announced on Facebook and at a council meeting.

International Women holiday celebration
International Women will meet on Dec. 2 at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Road, Monroeville.
A holiday celebration will start at 9.30 a.m., when all members will bring refreshments that could be served during the holiday season in their homelands and join together for a sing-along.
The group welcomes all women in the community, whether foreign- or American-born, who are interested in spending an enjoyable morning over coffee and the program of the month.
No meetings will be held during January and February. They resume March 3.
Holiday craft show
Divine Mercy Academy will host a holiday craft and vendor show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 3 at 245 Azalea Drive, Monroeville.

Santa and Friends Adventure
Monroeville Recreation and Parks Department is holding a Santa and Friends Adventure from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 10 at Monroeville Park West.
When arriving at the event, participants are asked to stay in their cars and then drive through the park, enjoying festive scenery with surprises along the way. Tune in to 96.3 FM to enhance the experience with holiday songs.
A holiday greens sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park’s Pavilion No. 1, presented by the Garden Club of Monroeville.
Library program features filmmaker
Join filmmaker Tony Buba for a showing and discussion of his 1988 documentary “Lightning Over Braddock: A Rustbowl Fantasy” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 5 in Johna’s Room at Monroeville Public Library, 4000 Gateway Campus Blvd.
Buba has been producing documentaries since 1972 in both long and short formats. His films have been screened at Sundance, Toronto, Berlin and other major international film festivals. He has had one-person exhibitions at more than 100 universities and museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art and Carnegie Museum of Art.
Sock It To ’Em Sock Campaign
The Monroeville Rotary Club is partnering with the Monroeville Chamber of Commerce, Visit Monroeville, Municipality of Monroeville and Gateway School District for a Sock It To ’Em Sock Campaign to put cold feet into warm socks.
Drop-off boxes are located through Jan. 31 at each of the offices at Gateway High School, Gateway Sports Complex, Mosside Middle School, and University Park, Ramsey, Evergreen and Cleveland Steward elementary schools. Boxes also are at the Chamber of Commerce office, 2790 Mosside Blvd., Suite 150, along with the Monroeville Public Library and Monroeville Municipal Building.

Monroeville budget
Monroeville Council will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. Dec. 13 to consider adoption of the 2023 municipal budget and related ordinances.
The 2023 budget proposes spending for municipal services of $36,646,983. The document is available for inspection between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday in the municipal manager’s office, at Monroeville Public Library or on the municipal website at www.monroeville.pa.us.
‘Sounds of Joy’ luncheon
The public is invited to attend the annual Symphony East “Sounds of Joy” Holiday Luncheon on Dec. 12 at the Lamplighter Restaurant in Delmont.
Festivities will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a holiday basket raffle. A special buffet luncheon will be served at 11:45. Live entertainment by Monroeville vocalist Judi Figel, with David Crisci on keyboards, begins at 1.
