PSO concert at Gateway
A Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at Gateway High School, 3000 Gateway Campus Blvd., Monroeville.
Symphony musicians are collaborating with high school students for the performance, which includes Sergei Prokofiev’s Suite from “Romeo and Juliet,” George Gershwin’s “Walking the Dog” from the film “Shall We Dance” and Manuel de Falla’s “The Three-Cornered Hat.”
General admission tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students, children and groups of 10 or more. For school groups of 10-plus, tickets are $5 each. Contact Group Sales at 412.392.4819 or group_sales@pittsburghsymphony.org.

Violins of Hope programs
Violins of Hope Greater Pittsburgh, a project featuring an exhibit of instruments played by Jewish musicians during the Holocaust, is presenting programs in Monroeville.
At Gateway High School on Oct. 19, students will learn about the stories of the violins, and a public program with students playing the instruments is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.
Another event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 9 at Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish, 245 Azalea Drive, in conjunction with remembrance of the victims of Germany’s Night of Broken Glass (Kristallnacht) in 1938, which is viewed as the launch of the Holocaust.

Artist Schultz’s work displayed at library
The works Charita Schultz will be on display in the Monroeville Public Library’s Elaine Biondi Gallery Space through Oct. 26.
Schultz is a self-taught artist from Pittsburgh. She has been working primarily with the medium of collage for over 20 years.
This is the first time showing her works publicly, and she hopes to invoke intrigue, wonder, and challenge viewers’ perceptions. Patrons can expect to see collages on canvas, smaller-format works and prints. Artist inquiries can be sent to CharitaSchultz.art@gmail.com.
Friends of Monroeville Public Library also is hosting an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 4 for that month’s exhibitor, the Calligraphy Guild Pittsburgh
On Dec. 2 is the opening reception for Blanket the Library Plus, complemented by a winter shopping market featuring local businesses and a public celebration of the completion of the Light Up the Library campaign, which provides more efficient lighting for the building at 4000 Gateway Campus Blvd.
Youth ice hockey
Gateway Ice Hockey Club is looking for youth ice hockey players in kindergarten through sixth grade to join the developmental program, starting at 5:45 p.m. Oct. 15 at Palmer Imaging Arena in Delmont.
No prior playing or skating experience is necessary and we loaner starter equipment can be provided. If interested, email gatewaydevohockey@gmail.com. Players outside of Gateway are welcome, as well.
Gun show scheduled
Monroeville Convention Center hosts the Showmasters gun show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 14 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 15.
This show will feature many exhibitors with more than 600 tables. Tickets are $12. Children younger than 12 get in free. Free parking will be available.
