Monroeville’s Chick-fil-A last week donated $350 worth of food to three UPMC retirement facilities in the area.

Elizabeth McKenna, a UPMC spokeswoman, said the food fed more than 100 staff at Beatty Pointe Village in Monroeville, Seneca Hills Village and Seneca Manor, both in Penn Hills.

“What a wonderful gesture of support from the community,” McKenna said.

Rich Adamik, store manager at Chick-fil-A in Monroeville, said the donated lunches were to show support to the staff.

“We really appreciate that you are taking care of the elderly and keeping them safe. We wanted to do something special for those taking care of our loved ones,” he said in a prepared statement.

Adamik said the fast-food restaurant has been donating meals to hospitals, Med Express, nursing homes and independent facilities during the covid-19 pandemic. He said the restaurant will donate food to fire and police stations this week.

Cases of covid-19 have popped up at nursing homes in the region, with at least 50 cases and 11 deaths reported at Brighton Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Beaver County. However, officials there recently announced they presume all its residents and staff have covid-19.

Also in Beaver County, Rochester Manor and Villa reported one person tested positive for the virus. And in Washington County, Southminster Place reported one positive case, according to media reports.

Locally, St. Barnabas Nursing Home in Richland reported 18 cases and two deaths. There have been three deaths reported at Kane Community Living in Glen Hazel, with 25 residents and 15 staff members testing positive.
