Shoppers can meet all their holiday baking, entertaining and gift-giving needs at the Friends of Monroeville Public Library’s winter shopping market from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 2 at the library, 4000 Gateway Campus Blvd.
Unique handmade gifts, items that help others and homemade treats will be available from local vendors Coffee That Helps, Ethical Hope, Fussy Cuts Papery, Gnatsville Farm Kitchen, Laurel Mountain Soaps and Body Products, Old Treasures Ring Anew, SpectroDolce, Vnlla Cncpt, Artist, Ian Whetstone and artist Jay Winter.
The Friends also will celebrate the opening night for Blanket the Library, an art installation and fundraising event where donated high-quality, handcrafted items will adorn the walls of the Gallery Space and be featured in the display case.
The items will be made available for bidding in a silent auction from Dec. 1-14. The highest bidder may pay by cash or check when picking up the item on Dec. 15 or 16. All proceeds from handmade art will go to Friends of Monroeville Public Library.
The winter shopping market will feature festive raffle baskets and a gifts-to-go table, all benefiting the Friends. Cash and checks will be accepted to eliminate credit card fees, keeping more funds to support library needs. The Friends group also suggests cash and checks to support any vendors who do not take credit cards.
“The Friends of MPL hope the evening will make our Blanket the Library donors feel appreciated for their work, as well as provide an evening for the community to come together for a unique shopping experience,” said Diane Lindsay, Friends president.
Friends of Monroeville Public Library is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that has been supporting the library for over 60 years. In addition to promoting the use of library resources, the group provides yearly funding for summer reading programs and makes other contributions toward library needs, such as new bookshelves in the Children’s Room.
