A Monroeville school will host its fourth annual Touch-a-Truck and BEE Well Family Expo in May, during which participants also will be able to recycle small electronic items.

Spectrum Charter School will host the event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 4 at Gateway No. 4 Fire Hall, 4370 Northern Pike.

Admission is free.

Proceeds from the day’s activities will benefit the school’s efforts in purchasing mobile STEM carts for each of Spectrum’s four classrooms. The school enrolled 35 students who are on the autism spectrum this school year.

The carts include items related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and will cater to each student’s intellectual ability, said Debbie Iszauk, a spokeswoman for Spectrum.

The event will feature large trucks for children to explore, and the BEE Well Family Expo will feature information and products focusing on health, safety, fitness, recycling and green living.

Participants can dispose of two to three electronic items, which will be recycled by Delmont-based West Penn Metals Recycling LLC. Televisions and other larger items will not be accepted. The service is free.

Participants also will have a chance to win two youth bicycles and other items when they purchase raffle tickets.

“We are excited to partner with our sponsors to once again be hosting Spectrum Charter School’sTouch-a-Truck event in Monroeville,” said Michelle Johnson, the school’s CEO, in a news release. “The event is also a fun way to help educate our community about our school and the work we do with students on the autism spectrum.”

The school was founded in 1999 and is for students aged 13-21.
