The Monroeville senior center is scheduled to reopen with restricted hours and programming Aug. 6 after being closed since mid-March because of the covid-19 pandemic.

Since June 10, the center has been working on a plan that includes new policies and procedures for visiting per recommended guidelines of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Pennsylvania Department of Aging and the Allegheny Health Department, according to an announcement on the center’s Facebook page and the municipality’s website.

If the center reopens as planned, the new hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The following guidelines will be in place:

• Only members will be permitted to use the facility.

• Visitors will not be permitted past the security checkpoint.

• No new member registrations will be accepted.

• There will be minimal programming with no luncheons, special events, social group meetings or gatherings and bus trips.

Large events will not be permitted.

Plans are to resume normal operations after Sept. 7, based on whether all restriction levels have been lifted, according to the announcement. The time frame will be evaluated and could change based on announcements from Gov. Tom Wolf.

A total of 13 full-time employees have been furloughed until July 6, an action taken by Municipal Manager Tim Little to stymie the pandemic’s inevitable financial impact to Monroeville. The furloughs included employees from the senior center and the library.
