Monroeville works to clean up flooded roads

Monroeville officials worked to clear several flooded roads in the aftermath of torrential rainfall Sunday night and early Monday.

Nearly three inches of rain fell in several areas in the Pittsburgh region. Water rose quickly, submerging vehicles and leaving roads inaccessible. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for much of the region – including Monroeville – through 4 p.m.

The NWS forecasts more rain throughout the day but calls for partly sunny skies Tuesday with a high of 74 degrees.

As of 2:30 p.m. Monday, Davidson Road remained closed from Saltsburg to Old Frankstown roads. The intersection of Thompson Run Road and Old William Penn Highway was also closed.

Abers Creek Road, Hochberg Road at Old Frankstown Road, Edgemeade at Old Frankstown Road and Edgemeade at Logans Ferry Road all closed around 3:30 p.m.

Logans Ferry Road at Skyview Drive had standing water on the roadway and a fallen tree blocked McClure Road at Shangri La Drive as of Monday afternoon.

Those wanting to report flooding should leave a message with Public Works in person or via mail. The municipality posted to its website that the Public Works Department is experiencing issues with its phone system, namely its voice mail retrieval system.

“The Municipality has contacted Advent, the phone equipment company who installed and supports the phone system. They are working to remedy the voice mail problem,” said the post on Monroeville’s website.

The public works building is located at 200 Starr Drive.
