The Jack Sedlack Memorial Clean Up Day in Monroeville has been rescheduled for the end of August but the picnic that typically follows it has been canceled.
The 25th annual event, usually held in April or May, was canceled this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. It was rescheduled to run from 9 to 11 a.m. on Aug. 29.
Last year’s event drew 511 volunteers, who collected 587 bags of litter, 36 tires and seven televisions, according to the event’s organizer, Joe Sedlack. He also serves as Monroeville’s Human Resources Director and Open Records Officer.
The event was named after Joe’s father, Jack Sedlak, a former Monroeville councilman who envisioned a cleaner community. He died of cancer in 1995.
In previous years, the litter cleanup concluded with a picnic in Monroeville Community Park West. This year, although the picnic was canceled, each volunteer will receive a T-shirt and an entry for a prize raffle. The raffle drawing will be broadcast Sept. 1 on the Monroeville Recreation and Parks, Monroeville, PA page on Facebook.
