News briefs: Scholarship opportunities available, dean's list accolades, college graduations and more

The Bob Williams Rotary Memorial Scholarship Committee is accepting applications for a $5,000 scholarship through February. The scholarship is available to eight high school seniors who plan to enroll in a state-certified college and who maintain at least a 2.5 GPA or to a GED recipient who intends on returning to post-secondary education.

The deadline to file an application is Feb. 28.

Student news

• Dana Cecere of Monroeville has been named to Ohio University College of Health Sciences and Professions’ fall 2020 dean’s list. Ohio students who earned 12 semester hours of credit, including at least six hours attempted for letter grades, with a minimum grade-point average of at least 3.5 achieved this distinction.

• Raymond Healy (computer science program) and Darrin Majocha (communication program) of Monroeville have been named to the dean’s list at Rochester Institute of Technology for the 2020 fall semester. Undergraduate students are eligible for the dean’s list if their GPA is greater than or equal to 3.40 for nine credit hours of traditionally graded coursework; they do not have any grades of “Incomplete,” NE, D, or F; and they have registered for, and completed, at least 12 credit hours.

• Deanna Supancic of Monroeville graduated from Edinboro University in December with a Master of Social Work degree.

• Justin Manke of Verona graduated with a Master of Science in recreation and sport sciences from Ohio University’s Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education in fall 2020.

• Corey Messenger of Monroeville graduated with a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Ohio University’s College of Health Sciences and Professions in fall 2020.

• Daniel Li, Lauren Miller and Asher Passalinqua of Monroeville were named to Grove City College dean’s list for the fall 2020 semester. Students eligible for the dean’s list have a GPA of at least 3.40.

Baseball tryouts

The Monroeville Baseball Association will hold tryouts for its Youth Legion team for any Monroeville or Pitcairn resident born between 2005 and 2008 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on March 6 and 13 at the Gateway High School gymnasium, 3000 Gateway Campus Blvd.
