Police: Pitcairn man initiated confrontation that led to stabbing

A 65-year-old Pitcairn man confessed to police that he stabbed another man over a dispute about money that was earmarked to buy marijuana, according to a criminal complaint.
Allegheny County Police on Thursday filed charges against Barry Bishop, 65, in connection to a stabbing that sent both Bishop and another man to an area hospital Wednesday night.
According to a criminal complaint, police were dispatched at 7:16 p.m. Wednesday to the 300 block of Broadway Boulevard in Pitcairn for a report of two men that were stabbed. The injuries were considered non-life-threatening.
At the hospital, detectives questioned the 67-year-old man that was allegedly stabbed by Bishop. The man, who is neighbors with Bishop in their apartment building, told police he was walking to the apartment building’s communal restroom when Bishop stabbed him, the complaint said.
The man told police he fought off Bishop, which caused Bishop to drop the knife. The man picked up the knife and went back to his apartment, where his brother was, the complaint said. They went outside to wait for the police to arrive.
The man had a wound on his neck and a cut on his lip, the complaint said.
Detectives also interviewed Bishop at the hospital. Bishop told detectives he gave the man $40 and asked him to buy weed for him, the complaint said. About a half-hour later, Bishop saw the man walk down the hallway and confronted him about the money he had given him.
Bishop confessed to pulling a knife out of his pocket and using it to stab the man, the complaint said.
Bishop is awaiting a preliminary hearing. He is charged with aggravated assault, possessing an instrument of crime and reckless endangerment.
