Here is a quick review of Monroeville news from the past week:

• Monroeville Council faces a $3.1 million deficit in its proposed 2021 spending plan. To fill the gap, Manager Tim Little has proposed using $5.9 million from the fund balance. The money left over will be used to pay for capital items.

• The library’s board of directors is pleading with council to hire back 10 part-time employees. They say covid-19 guidelines are stretching the 11 full-time staffers thin.

• John Ritter is challenging incumbent Brandon Markosek in the race for State Representative in House District 25.

• Saheed Gayle, the 20-year-old shooting victim recently killed at the Monroeville Mall, will be remembered as a loving, selfless man by friends and family. The alleged killer, Lawrence Mark Murphy, remains at large. Police filed charges Oct. 12.
