Gateway High School will offer a week-long program in July through the National Inventors Hall of Fame, and is seeking students entering kindergarten through sixth grade to sign up.

The program, Camp Invention, is in its fifth year at Gateway and this year will focus on creating solutions to real-world problems and building critical skills by rotating through several hands-on teaching modules.

The 2019 program, dubbed “Supercharged!” includes lessons on rebuilding a robot, searching for hidden fossils, coding and programming a robot named “Bot-ANN-E” to turn a polluted wasteland into a fruitful farm and successful business and designing superhero gadgets to explore engineering and fabrication.

The program will be led by teacher Jim Pottinger and other high school teachers to ensure one staff member is in place for every eight students. Students will serve as “Leadership Interns.”

“The kids that have gone always want to come back,” Pottinger said. “It’s a great way to enjoy the mid-summer break.”

The camp begins July 8 but registration is open. Use promo code PLAY15LISTING to save $15 off the $230 cost for the program. Every registration includes a Camp Invention T-shirt. Register at www.invent.org/camp or call 800-968-4332.
