Local police team up for bike rodeo on cycling safety

Shaler, Etna and Millvale police — along with Shaler and Hampton EMS — will host a bike rodeo event May 13 at Kiwanis Park to teach young people about bike safety.

All children in attendance will receive a free bicycle helmet. Kids are encouraged to bring their own bikes, which mechanics from Scholl’s Bike Shop in West View can inspect.

Participants also will have a chance to ride their bicycles on the rodeo course set up at the park.

The police departments will raffle off new bicycles during the event. Each participant will be given a ticket for the chance to win a new bike.

The event is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The bicycle raffle is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m.

Light refreshments and bottled water will be available.

People can register online through noon May 12.
