Firefighter injured in Homewood house fire

A Pittsburgh firefighter was injured Sunday night while battling a house fire in the city’s Homewood neighborhood.

Crews responded around 7:40 p.m. to a one-alarm fire on the 7300 block of Idlewild Street, public safety officials said in a release.

The firefighter sustained a burn to his lower leg and was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

No one appeared to be living at the property.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.


2 injured in Turtle Creek shooting

Two men were found shot Sunday night near a 7-Eleven convenience store in Turtle Creek, according to Allegheny County Police.

Emergency responders were called to the scene around 10 p.m. for a man shot in the ankle on the 400 block of James Street, police said.

Police also located a victim with multiple gunshot wounds nearby, on the 400 block of Albert Street.

One victim was taken to a hospital in stable condition and another in critical condition.

Allegheny County detectives are investigating.

No arrests have been announced as of 6 a.m. Monday.


Police seek missing man near Unity

Pennsylvania State Police in Greensburg are searching for a man who they fear is at special risk of harm or injury.

Troopers are looking for Edward Surma, 55. He was last seen around 8:40 a.m. Friday in the area of Route 130 in Unity Township.

Surma is believed to be driving a 2015 silver Volkswagen Jetta. The vehicle has a front license plate that reads “ED” and the Pennsylvania registration KFG1936.

Police issued the missing person advisory Sunday.

Anyone with information on Surma’s whereabouts is asked to contact police by calling 911 or 724-832-3288.
