Over a dozen injured in explosion in Crawford County
At least 13 people were reported injured after an industrial fire and explosion Sunday morning at the Parker Lord Corp. in Saegertown in Crawford County.
TribLive news partner WTAE reported that officials were called to the chemical plant around 10:30 a.m. in response to an automatic fire alarm within the facility.
Officials said there was an explosion as crews worked to contain the blaze.
A temporary shelter-in-place order for residents was lifted several hours later, and the fire is now isolated, WTAE reported.
Officials reported at least 13 people were injured. Five Saegertown firefighters were taken to the hospital, along with one from Edinboro Volunteer Fire Department, The Meadville Tribune reported. The vast majority were taken for precautionary reasons.
Seven Parker Lord employees also were taken to the hospital, four for precautionary reasons, Saegertown Borough Emergency Manager Chuck Lawrence told the Tribune.
Erie News Now reported serious damage to the Parker Lord building and another facility across the street.
4 injured in SUV fire at Fayette County gas station
At least four people were taken to the hospital Saturday evening after an SUV hit a pickup and two gas pumps, then caught fire in Fayette County.
The crash occurred at a gas station along Route 51 in Perryopolis, according to TribLive news partner WTAE.
The truck was parked several spaces away, WTAE reported. Its driver was inside the gas station buying a lottery ticket when the SUV struck the truck and then the pumps.
Officials are investigating.
Police arrest juvenile after burglaries
Pittsburgh police on Sunday announced the arrest of a juvenile they believe to be involved in two burglaries.
Police believe the juvenile, who did they not identify, was involved in a burglary on Lakewood Street in the city’s Elliott neighborhood Thursday and a home invasion burglary on Bucyrus Street in the same neighborhood Friday.
Patrol officers arrested him immediately after the Bucyrus Street burglary when he was found to be in possession of stolen items linked to that incident, police said.
Police said they recovered a stolen firearm from the Lakewood Street burglary at his residence.
They also identified the suspect with surveillance camera video and location tracking through an electronic home monitoring ankle bracelet, officials said.
The juvenile is being held at Highland Detention at Shuman Center.
Millvale Riverfront entrance temporarily closed
The entrance to Millvale Riverfront Park has been temporarily closed after concrete fell from the roof of a nearby overpass.
In a social media post, Millvale police urged people to access the riverfront from the other side of the overpass.
Norfolk Southern, which manages the overpass, was advised and will assess the damage, Millvale police said. Other authorities will be called in to check the integrity of the rest of the overpass.
Millvale police could not immediately estimate how long the road will remain closed.
No injuries reported after vehicle hits Moon business
No one was reported injured after a vehicle crashed Sunday morning into a beer distributor, according to Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company.
The fire company posted photos on social media showing damage done to an exterior wall at the distributor after the crash.
