Roundup: Missing Pitt med student found dead

Crews battled a fire in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield section late Thursday.

A missing 30-year-old University of Pittsburgh medical student has been found dead. 

The body of Luis Espinoza, who had been missing since Monday, was found Friday around 8:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Sterling Street in the city’s South Side Slopes section.

Espinoza was last seen around 10:30 a.m. Monday near South Side Park off of Mission Street in the same neighborhood, police said.

He was walking his Doberman at the time. The dog was later found running loose.

Pittsburgh police are investigating. A police spokesperson said preliminary indications are that Espinoza’s death does not appear suspicious.

Investigators are awaiting autopsy results from the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Fire in Bloomfield

Three people escaped injury late Thursday during a two-alarm fire in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood.

Crews were called to a home in the 400 block of South Graham Street, according to TribLive news partner WTAE.

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, the residents came from two apartments. Officials said there was nobody in the ground-floor apartment when the fire started.

An investigation is underway.
