McKeesport teacher’s aide charged with assault

A teacher’s aide at Francis McClure Elementary School in White Oak has been charged with assaulting a 5-year-old special-needs student.

Allegheny County Police were assigned to investigate a ChildLine report about an incident that allegedly took place shortly before noon Nov. 7.

Police said video from the school showed Amy Kevicki, 53, of North Huntingdon grabbing a child by the back of the neck and shoving him onto the ground.

The child was not injured, police said.

“As soon as we were made aware of this situation, the instructional assistant in question was immediately placed on indefinite leave, pending a thorough investigation,” McKeesport Area School District officials said in a statement posted to the district Facebook page.

Kevicki was charged with misdemeanor simple assault, child endangering and harassment.

A Dec. 9 preliminary hearing is set in Judge Thomas Miller Jr.’s White Oak court.

A vehicle crashed into an Advance Auto Parts store early Wednesday morning in West Homestead.

TribLive news partner WTAE said the crash was reported shortly after 5:30 a.m.

No one was transported from the crash scene, according to Allegheny County 911 officials.
