Mon Wharf reopens
The Mon Wharf parking lot is reopening Monday after it closed due to flooding, according to the Pittsburgh Parking Authority.
Parking will be available on the Wood Street and Stanwix Street sides of the parking deck.
Police say Pittsburgh man assaulted deputy sheriff
A Pittsburgh man has been charged after officials said he assaulted a deputy sheriff outside the Allegheny County Courthouse in Downtown Pittsburgh.
Two deputies were patrolling along Grant Street at 12:45 p.m. Thursday when Tyrone Kelly, 65, moved toward one of the deputies and punched the deputy multiple times, according to the sheriff’s office.
The two deputies quickly took Kelly to the ground, officials said. One of the deputies suffered a slightly separated shoulder in the incident.
Kelly was taken into custody and faces charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
The sheriff’s office said both deputies involved in the altercation have returned to duty.
State police look into death of 3-month-old child in Aliquippa
State police are investigating after a 3-month-old child died Saturday in Aliquippa.
Aliquippa police responded to Beaver Avenue just after 1:30 p.m. Saturday for an unresponsive child. The child, who has not been identified, was transported to Heritage Valley Beaver Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to state police.
The investigation is ongoing.
West Mifflin man arrested in connection with Larimer shooting
A West Mifflin man was arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Larimer on Friday.
Nathaniel Walker, 48, was found dead inside a home on Lowell Street around 2 p.m. Friday, police said.
Police have arrested Heirkess Moore-Smith, 25, of West Mifflin. Court records show Moore-Smith is being held in Allegheny County Jail without bond.
He was charged with criminal homicide, robbery and other offenses.
TribLive news partner WTAE reported that a witness told police two men tried to rob Walker and one of them shot him as they ran from the house.
Driver injured after crashing into West Mifflin McDonald’s
A driver was injured late Sunday night after crashing into a McDonald’s in West Mifflin.
The crash happened just before midnight, according to Skyview Vol. Fire Co.
The car had lost control and went airborne into the restaurant, according to the fire department.
The driver was taken to a local trauma center. Additional details, including the extent of the person’s injuries, were not immediately available.
