Two separate butterfly-related events will happen in the Murrysville area later this month.

The first is a July 27 presentation on butterflies and host plants, by Marcy Cunkelman. It will be at 10 a.m. in the wetlands pavilion at Murrysville Community Park, 4056 Weistertown Road in Murrysville.

Cunkelman will show the butterfly’s life cycle and will also hold a free drawing for a butterfly cage.

The second will be a July 29 butterfly release at the Delmont Public Library.

Initially funded through a grant from the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County, the “Delmont Diggers” group has raised monarch caterpillars in an enclosure at the library for the past few years, then released the adult butterflies into the butterfly garden they created in 2017.

Below, see coordinator Diane Resnick discuss the program during its initial year in 2016.

This year’s release will be at 6 p.m. at the library, 77 Greensburg Street in Delmont.
