For some, dandelions are a nuisance; for others, they’re a source of fresh spring salad greens. For herbalist Lindsey Praksti, they’re definitely the latter.

Certified herbalist Lindsey Praksti will lead a walk on Thursday along the Westmoreland Heritage Trail in Delmont.

Walking in the woods was what first got Praksti, who received her certification from the Blue Ridge School of Herbal Medicine in North Carolina, interested in finding new uses for the plants she was walking past.

“Pretty much three-quarters of what you’re walking on in your backyard is useful either as food or medicine,” said Praksti prior to a 2016 walk. “I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I was looking at, and that led me to finding out about the edible and medicinal aspects of what we typically find in the woods.”

Walkers will meet at the trailhead along Athena Drive at 5 p.m. There is no cost to attend.
