Several Delmont residents are looking to form a “visionary committee” as they prepare for the arrival of the Westmoreland Heritage Trail in the borough.
Annamarie Stackiewicz of Delmont said those interested in forming the committee would be meeting for the first time at 7 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Delmont Public Library, 77 Greensburg St.
The upcoming fourth phase of the Westmoreland Heritage Trail, connecting Murrysville and Export, is projected to be complete by late August.
County commissioners in November approved a $1.3 million agreement with Plum Contracting to construct the fourth phase, which will extend its western section through Murrysville to Lincoln Avenue in Export.
That leaves only one more gap, between Export and Delmont, before hikers and bikers can travel unimpeded for nearly 23 miles from Trafford to Saltsburg.
The Westmoreland Heritage Trail board will meet on Valentine’s Day at the Lamplighter in Salem.
