The Community Foundation of Murrysville, Export & Delmont is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations for local community projects.

The foundation “encourages creativity and initiative by funding local residents’ ideas for enriching community life,” according to a release.

“It always varies,” foundation board member Roberta Cook said. “We usually give something to the Delmont library for their project du jour for kids — last year it was books for babies. Often times we’ll give money to food banks like Mother of Sorrows for a piece of equipment they might need. We gave money last year to the Westmoreland Conservancy for grass seed at their new property.”

Grants in the range of several hundred dollars will be awarded to organizations that can demonstrate that a small sum can make a significant positive impact on the local community.

The foundation dates back about three decades, when it began as the Franklin Regional Foundation. Since then, it has merged with the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County, which itself is now a part of The Pittsburgh Foundation.

The deadline for applications is June 15. To receive an application, email Roberta Cook at rcook109@gmail.com.
