Chalk art festival in Delmont (CANCELED)
[PLEASE NOTE: Per the committee, this event has been canceled.] The Delmont Visionary Committee will host a Chalk Art Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 11 at the Shields Farm on Overly Street.
For a $10 donation, children will have a 8 foot square space on the street to express their creativity. Chalk will be provided, but families can bring their own.
The day also will include face painting, food, live music and more. There is no cost to attend these additional events.

Summer reading program at Murrysville library
The Murrysville Community Library will kick off its summer reading program, “Oceans of Possibilities,” on these dates for different age groups:
• Ocean Explorers (ages 3-6), 11 a.m. on Tuesdays beginning June 21.
• Seafaring Adventurers (kindergarten to grade 5 and ages 6-12), 11 a.m. on Thursdays beginning June 23.
• Treasure Hunters (ages 12-18), 4 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning June 21.
All programs will run for six weeks.
New for this summer is also a Citizen’s Science Camp, “Cloud Quest,” designed for middle-school children and featuring games, projects and hands-on investigations exploring the impact of clouds on weather and climate. It will run from 2-4 p.m. Wednesdays starting June 22, for children heading into grades 6-9.

‘Boomers & Beyond’ series focuses on refugee resettlement
The “Boomers & Beyond” speaker series at Mother of Sorrows Church will host Alina Harbourne of Jewish Family and Community Services Pittsburgh for a program on refugee resettlement efforts in the U.S. and the Pittsburgh area.
It will be at noon, June 14 at the church social hall, 4202 Old William Penn Highway, Murrysville.
There is no cost to attend, and participants may bring a bag lunch.
Pop-up glass recycling and food pantry collection
Murrysville officials and Republic Services will host a pop-up glass recycling event, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 11 at the Veterans Field parking lot, 4200 Sardis Road.
Residents are encouraged to bring nonperishable food donations for the Loaves and Fishes Emergency Food Pantry, which will have a drive-thru collection station set up.
Upcoming events at Union Presbyterian
Union Presbyterian Church in Washington Township will host the following events in June:
• June 12: Blessing of the pets, 6 p.m. Bring pets to receive a blessing and a treat.
• June 14: Narcan training session, 7 p.m. Learn about this safe, easy and effective way to reverse an opioid overdose. There is no cost to attend, but register by calling 724-337-3042.
• June 23, drive-thru mission chicken dinner, 4:30-6:30 p.m. In exchange for a freewill donation, the church will host a drive-thru for a dinner of baked chicken and gravy, baked potato with sour cream, green beans, a roll and butter, applesauce and a cookie. Dinners will be served until the food runs out. Donations will go to Samaritan’s Purse for aid efforts in Ukraine as well as the Blackburn Center in Greensburg.
All events will be at the church, 656 Route 380 in Washington Township.
Small Fry Scramble at Townsend Park
The Murrysville Recreation Department will host a “Small Fry Scramble,” half-mile, 1- and 2-mile runs for children age 12 and under, at 6:30 p.m. June 15 at Townsend Park.
The park is on Townsend Park Court in Murrysville.

Upcoming events at Delmont library
The Delmont Public Library will host the following events this month:
• June 13: The Delmont Diggers will work with children to create a “deep sea garden” with magical sea creatures at 6 p.m.
• June 15: Members of Plant-Based Pittsburgh will present “Everything Tomatoes” at 6:30 p.m., a program focused on the versatility of the favorite summer fruit.
• June 17: The library will host a children’s escape room event at 5 and 7 p.m., featuring the infamous pirate “Diego of Delmont.” Participants will have 60 minutes to find clues, solve a mystery and escape the library.
• June 22: Westmoreland Conservancy meeting, 7 p.m.
