Murrysville area: Holiday events, Symphony East luncheon and more

Holiday events

• Export Light Up Night will take place at 6 p.m. Dec. 6 outside the Export Fire Department at the corner of Washington and Lincoln avenues.

The evening will include a fish fry at the Export Moose from 3-8 p.m., a dance performance by DeStella Dance Centre, live music from 6-8 p.m. at Keystone Church, and Santa’s arrival at 7 p.m.

There will also be a lottery tree raffle and the annual cookie crawl.

• Santa at Sardis will take place from 1-4 p.m. Dec. 7 at Sardis Park, on Rocky Hill Lane in Murrysville.

The annual celebration will include campfires, s’mores, hot cocoa, cookies and photos with Santa.

Parking is limited and families are encouraged to carpool. In addition, the field is often wet and/or muddy and proper footwear is also encouraged.

The event is also seeking volunteers. If interested, call 724-327-2100, ext. 131 or 115.

Symphony East holiday luncheon

The public is invited to the annual Symphony East “Sounds of Joy” holiday luncheon, set for 11:45 a.m. Dec. 2 at the Lamplighter Restaurant on Route 22.

A buffet luncheon will be served at 11:45 a.m. with live entertainment by dance band Dr. Zoot at 1 p.m. The event will also include a holiday basket raffle. The cost of the meal is $35 per person. No reservations are required if only attending the 1 p.m. performance. Performance-only tickets are $15.

The Lamplighter is at 6566 Route 22 in Salem, just outside Delmont.

‘A Christmas Carol’ reading

The public is invited to Trinity United Church of Christ in Delmont for a special live reading of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” by Kenneth Serfass.

Serfass regularly appears at local libraries and events, typically as a reenactor portraying past presidents like Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant.

The reading will be at noon, Dec. 14 at the church, 39 East Pittsburgh Street in Delmont.

Attendees are invited to bring a food item to donate to the Westmoreland Food Bank, a new unwrapped toy for the Toys for Tots program or a new pet toy for the Action for Animals shelter in Latrobe.

Refreshments will be available during a 20-minute intermission and after the program.

No registration is required; the program is free to attend.

Library closure

The Delmont Public Library will close at 3 p.m. Nov. 27, and will remain closed through Nov. 30.

It will reopen with regular hours at Dec. 2.

‘Wreaths Across America’

Members of Trail Life USA Troop 2417 are accepting sponsorships for wreaths to be laid on veterans’ graves at Murrysville Cemetery during National Wreaths Across America Day, which is Dec. 14. Sponsorships start at $17. To sponsor a wreath, go to WreathsAcrossAmerica.org/PA0882P.
