Recreation department hosts “Sweetheart Hot Chocolate Hike” on Valentine’s Day
The Murrysville Recreation Department will host a “Sweetheart Hot Chocolate Hike” at 10 a.m. on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.
The hike will take place on the trails at Pleasant Valley Park, 2557 Pleasant Valley Road.
The wooded hike includes slopes and may require stepping over fallen trees. Participants should dress for the weather and plan for the terrain with proper footwear.
The hike will conclude with hot chocolate and a Valentine’s Day treat.

Murrysville Woman’s Club to meet Feb. 17
The Murrysville Woman’s Club will meet at 11:15 a.m., Feb. 17 at the Lamplighter, 6566 William Penn Highway in Salem. A wine pairing with Andrew Ferri will take place at noon.

Yoga event will benefit horse-therapy farm
A “Wellness & Workout” event including HIIT yoga and salt room sessions will benefit Bella Terra Stables in Murrysville, which provides equine-assisted therapy for children in crisis.
It will be from 6-8 p.m., Feb. 8 at SolSpace, 4558 William Penn Highway in Murrysville. The cost is $20, and includes high-intensity interval training, or HIIT, yoga, Arbonne nutrition samples as well as 15-minute sessions in SolSpace’s salt room. Participants will also receive a coupon for 10% off at SolSpace.
Democratic club accepting scholarship applications
The Murrysville Export Democratic Club is accepting applications for it annual Biden Harris Spirit Scholarship, awarded to a graduating Franklin Regional senior who exemplifies the spirit of community service.
The recipient will receive $500. Additional $100 scholarship awards will be given to up to two additional graduating seniors.
Applicants will be required to submit an essay describing how they serve the community and what inspired them to such service; also required is submission of at least one letter of recommendation from a Franklin Regional faculty member identifying that the student is in good standing at school.

Murrysville library programs
The Murrysville Community Library will host the following programs in the coming weeks:
• Feb. 12: Love the Library! Valentine’s Day Party at 11 a.m. Celebrate National Library Lovers Month with an event featuring love-themed stories, creating “heart art” and a screening of Frank Modell’s animated storybook “One Zillion Valentines” in the library’s TechNook; and the library’s Plant-based nutrition group will meet at 1 p.m.
• Feb. 14: Library knitters group 10 a.m.; STEM Storytime, 4 p.m.; Easter Seals siblings group meeting, 5:30 p.m.
• Feb. 15: Tuesday Afternoon Book Club, 2 p.m.
• Feb. 19: Dungeons & Dragons for middle school students, 2-5 p.m. This first session will set participants up with what to know and expect including character options, a framework of rules and guidelines on how to play. Geared toward children in grades 5-8.

AAUW meeting on Feb. 10 will focus on water safety
The Murrysville branch of the American Association of University Women will welcome guest speaker Matt Junker from the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County at its next meeting, 10 a.m. Feb. 10.
Junker, the authority’s public relations spokesman, will discuss water safety as it relates to the Environmental Protection Agency’s lead and copper regulations. New regulations will go into effect in 2024 dealing with how the lead content in drinking water is handled by authorities such as MAWC.
The meeting is at the Murrysville Community Library’s TechNook, 4130 Sardis Road.
