Manordale Valley Council of the Knights of Columbus was chosen from more than 500 councils across the country as recipient of the national Knights of Columbus’ “Leave No Neighbor Behind” award.

The Manordale council was recognized for its community work throughout the covid-19 pandemic including hosting several blood drives, supporting their local food bank, donating money, diapers and baby clothes to Catholic Charities and providing a wheelchair for a local veteran in need.

Jamie Riston of Murrysville was among nearly 300 students to receive their degrees at Wilkes University’s summer commencement, held last month at the Wilkes-Barre school.

Riston earned a master’s degree in education.

Jared Turacy of Export was named to the summer 2021 president’s list at Southern New Hampshire University.

The following local students are semifinalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program: Urvish Jain, Abhinav Komanduri and Prerit Yadav of Murrysville.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Murrysville welcomed new pastor Caleb Douglas on Sept. 26.

Douglas graduated from the North American Lutheran Seminary in Ambridge in 2017, did his vicarage at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New York City, and has spent the past two years working on a doctorate in theology through Marquette University in Milwaukee.

Danielle Andring of Export and Pin Shao of Murrysville recently graduated from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

Both earned a bachelor’s degrees in nursing.
