Two new administrative positions to aid North Allegheny’s transportation department were approved by the school board Feb. 21.
A manager of customer service, routing and operations will join a manager of personnel and safety to help ensure the safe and efficient transport of students to and from school and school activities, according to the board agenda.
The personnel/safety manager also organizes and leads the school district’s school bus driver training and safety programs.
Both positions will report to transportation director Scott Mergen, who was hired in November.
The customer service routing and operations manager advertisement is listed with a salary range starting at $80,000, and manager of personnel and safety with a range starting at $65,000. Both are commensurate with experience.
The positions are being advertised with a closing date of March 3, per the district job listings.
“It’s part of a larger restructuring in operations that’s been ongoing this school year and will not result in an increase to the overall district budget,” school board director Leslie Britton Dozier said.
The district experienced some transportation problems at the beginning of the current school year for families attending private schools after a third-party contractor unexpectedly canceled its contract.
In addition to 8,500 North Allegheny students, more than 1,000 students are transported each day to 30-plus public, private and parochial schools.
