An old heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit sits on the lawn of the Hampton Community Center as crews work to replace eight units April 13.

Hampton Community Center is expected to reopen Friday after a brief closure to replace the HVAC system.

The cost of the work topped $865,000, Manager Christ Lochner said.

The project was a major undertaking since the building spans 51,000 square feet. Contractors from Trinity Automated Solutions in Bridgeville began the work April 12.

Replacement of the eight rooftop units was expected to take about four days.

The HVAC system was original to the 16-year-old building. Lochner said their efficiency was waning.

“It was time to replace the system,” he said.

The Community Center sits on a 129-acre complex shared by the municipal office, police station and multiple recreation areas.

The center is open year-round and keeps a busy schedule of events with two full-size gyms and activity rooms, a library and great room, adult lounge, fitness center and indoor walking track.
