North Hills Home Show
The North Hills Home Show will take place April 23-25 at the North Park Sports Complex in Hampton, offering three action-packed days of experts, exhibits and demonstrations to educate and entertain.
Show hours will be 3-8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
Spaghetti dinner drive-thru
The Elfinwild Lions Club is holding a drive-thru free-will offering Spaghetti Dinner at Elfinwild Presbyterian Church, Mt. Royal Blvd., 3-6 p.m. April 17.
The dinner includes salad, spaghetti (choice of sausage, beef or veggie sauce), breadstick and dessert.
Cranberry opens park to dog walkers
North Hills residents looking for new places to walk their dogs now can take them to North Boundary Park in Cranberry.
The township announced a pilot program that allows people to walk dogs along NexTier Loop, a paved trail that winds through the park, 1171 North Boundary Road.
The trail is adjacent to the disc golf course and the nature trails, where dogs have been permitted since 2019.
Dogs must be leashed at all times and are not permitted on sports fields, at the waterpark or the Crocodile Cove Playground.
Dog stations have been erected along the loop with pet waste receptacles and signs outlining protocols. The pilot program is scheduled to run through 2021, when township officials evaluate whether to make it a permanent feature.
Free compost in McCandless
Leaf mulch for residents will be available at the parking lot between the McCandless/Northern Allegheny Heritage Center and the Lorraine G. Rogers Soccer Fields this spring.
Delivery of the mulch will take place April 9. Compost will not be available until after 3 p.m. on those dates. Residents are asked to take only one pickup truckload of mulch, which will be available until it is gone.
Pickleball in Franklin Park
The Pickleball Courts at Blueberry Hill Park are now open for play, and the courts at Old Orchard Park are open. When using all courts, please exercise caution if they are wet, especially in the mornings, because there could be slippery conditions.
Farmers market applications open
Applications are open for vendors for the Cranberry Township’s farmers market. Starting June 4, the farmers market will take place 3-7 p.m. every Friday in the front parking lot of the Cranberry Twp. Municipal Building.

Science Center’s Lettuce Grow Together! program
The Carnegie Science Center is teaming up with North Hills Community Outreach to broadcast three Facebook Live events that will explore the science behind gardening and healthy eating.
The following virtual events will be hosted on Carnegie Science Center’s Facebook page and will be available on the Science Center’s YouTube channel following the livestream:
• Harvesting Lettuce and Making a Salad, at 11 a.m. April 21. Learn how to seed, grow, and harvest lettuce to make a delicious and nutritious salad.
• Apiaries and Bees, at 11 a.m. May 19. Take a virtual tour of North Hills Community Outreach’s apiary and learn about the relationship between bees and plants. For details, visit carnegiesciencecenter.org.
Personal care items needed
North Hills Community Outreach is hosting a collection drive until April 19 to collect personal care items for people in need.
The most needed items include disposable razors, shave cream, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, unscented hand soap, unscented hand lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, deodorant, washcloths and lip balm. Donations can be dropped off 9 am.-4 p.m. weekdays at the charity’s three locations and 9 a.m.-noon on the first Saturday of the month at the Allison Park location.
