The Town of McCandless will mark the second anniversary of the opening of the McCandless/Northern Allegheny Heritage Center with a festival on Saturday, May 18.

Festivities, which run from 1 to 4 p.m., will include a display of public safety vehicles and the opportunity for kids to “touch-a-truck,” military and sports memorabilia displays, an interactive recyclable art show and light refreshments.

Jim Vinski, a volunteer with the Heritage Center, will conduct a presentation on World War II artifacts beginning at 2 p.m.

At 6:30 p.m., the center will host “Kit’s Birthday Sleepover.”

Children will be allowed to bring their dolls and stuffed animals to help American Girl doll Kit celebrate her “birthday.”

The kids will enjoy games and stories, get a tour of the center and hand-craft a sleeping bag for their dolls, who will spend the night at the center in their new sleeping bags.

The kids will return on Sunday for a picnic breakfast and to see what their dolls where up to overnight.

Space is limited for “Kit’s Birthday Sleepover,” which costs $20 per child to participate.
