Ross Township has published a list of streets in the municipality that will paved this year.
As a result, road paving and bridge repairs are the two largest line items in this year’s budget.
The township’s $22.9 million spending plan for 2019 earmarks $2 million to pave roads and $890,000 for bridge rehabilitation and replacement.
In response to concerns from residents about the poor condition of township roads, the board of commissioners in the past several years have boosted spending for paving and other infrastructure improvements.
Beginning in 2017, the board began budgeting about $2 million a year for paving. In 2016 the township spent about $1.3 million on paving.
The $2 million set aside for paving is typically enough to cover the cost of resurfacing about 8.5 miles of road, according to public works officials.
The township is responsible for maintaining about 120 miles of roads.
