West View Councilwoman M. Kimberly Steele died on Wednesday, Nov. 26, following a 10-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was 72.

During her tenure on borough council, Steele had been president and was most recently vice president.

She also had served on the West View Water Authority’s board of directors.

West View Council has 30 days to make an appointment to replace Steele, borough Manager Bruce Fromlak said.

“Councilwoman Steele was a steady, thoughtful voice in local government, known for her professionalism, kindness and genuine dedication to public service,” the borough said in announcing her passing. “Her leadership and willingness to listen will be greatly missed by her colleagues, borough staff and the many residents whose lives she touched.”

Born Mary Kimberly Watkins on March 29, 1953, Steele graduated from North Hills High School in 1971.

She worked for the Pennsylvania Legislature as chief of staff for 31 years, according to her obituary.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth J. Reilly; three sons, Jason R. Steele, Richard M. Steele and Michael L. Steele; a daughter, Julie L. Steele-Palley; and two grandchildren.

A celebration of life was held Saturday, Nov. 29, at the West View Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Arrangements were handled by Schellhaas Funeral Home.
