Northern Tier Library has achieved Gold Star Status through the Pennsylvania Library Association.
The award was earned because of the high quality of literacy programming that the library has presented, as determined by fellow librarians.
Upcoming programs include:
• Take-home crafts, Feb. 6 and 27. Kids of all ages are invited to enjoy a simple take-home craft. Call 724-449-2665 or register online at northerntierlibrary.org to reserve a supply kit that can be picked up on Tuesdays and enjoyed at home.
• The Weekly Project, Feb. 6 and 27, features a variety of activities like cooking, crafting, art and STEM. Each week will showcase a different project for children to work on with their families. • Maker space take-home kit. The library will offer a take-home kit featuring directions and materials to complete a craft from its maker space.

• Baby play time, 11 a.m. Tuesdays, featuring songs, finger plays, stories and rhymes.
The program is intended for babies up to age 18 months and will be held in the program room on the library’s main level. Siblings are welcome, and only one registration is required for the series of six playtimes.
There will be no session on Feb. 27.
• Family story and play time, 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 7 and 28, and Thursdays, Feb. 8 and 29, in the program room on the library’s main level, featuring songs and rhymes, books, and lots of movement.
The program is for toddlers, preschoolers, and their families. Registration is required, and only one registration is necessary for the series of six story times.
Families are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on, but the floor is carpeted.
• PR Pokémon Club, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 5. Bring your cards or games and join other Pokémon trainers at the library to trade and play together. Boards will be available for the card game, and a Pokémon-related project will be there to enjoy.
The event is self-directed and open to children, teens, and their families. Registration is required.
• Chinese New Year craft bundle. Register for a bundle that features a variety of themed crafts to make at home and share with your family. This year is all about the dragon.
Craft bundles for all ages will be available for pickup on Feb. 8 in the library’s lobby. Registration is required by Feb. 6 to account for supplies.
• Natureology: Amphibians, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 6. Discover more about how amphibians swapped their gills for lungs and life in a new world of air. Tony Palermo will lead the program for children of all ages. Registration is required.
• Math for Girls, 9:30 a.m. Feb. 10, is a free competition for late elementary and middle school-aged girls to empower young women’s engagement in STEM. Competitive math experience is not required or expected. Registration is required.
• Exchange Our World: USA is an event at 1 p.m. Feb. 3 for students and families to learn about the opportunities available to them for studying abroad in high school. A question-and-answer session will take place for further questions about high school exchange. Registration is requested.
• Dungeons & Dragons Discord server, 7 p.m. Feb. 7 and 9. Teens ages 13 to 18 can join the library’s Discord server for monthly Dungeons & Dragons adventures. Fill out the form at tinyurl.com/discdungeon to participate, and a librarian will email you an invitation link to join.
• Trivia Time, 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 2. Test your expertise in all things love and romance at Northern Tier’s first trivia night. Compete in teams of two to four members to win a prize.
The program is for guests 21 and older, and BYOB. Tickets are $5 per person or $15 for a team of four, and payment is required upon registration.
• Love Notes take-home kit. Heart-themed crafts are intended for adults and teens, as some of them may be more difficult for children, but all patrons are welcome to register, which is required. Kits can be picked up on Feb. 9.
• Technology help, 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 7 through 28. One-on-one, 30-minute sessions focus on basic skills in using computers, smartphones, eReaders and more. Registration is required.
• A Great Deal: Game Group, 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays on the library’s lower level.
Currently offered are pinochle on Tuesdays and American mahjong on Wednesdays, but additional games may follow. Registration is requested.
• Conversation group, 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 8 on the library’s lower level.
