A woman from Irwin died when the motorcycle she was driving hit a utility van that crossed the center line along McKeesport Road in Elizabeth Township on Sunday, according to police.

The crash happened shortly before 5 p.m. when a utility van traveling eastbound veered into the westbound lane near the intersection of McKeesport Road and Long Street, according to Elizabeth police Chief Ken Honick.

Honick said both motorcycles hit the passenger side of the van.

Both motorcyclists were transported to Allegheny General Hospital in separate medical helicopters for treatment. The woman died from her injuries and the man remains in critical condition, Honick said.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office identified the woman as Christina Bocan, 47, of Irwin.

The driver of the van remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators, the chief said.

“The crash remains under investigation, but initial information from interviews with officers is that the driver of the van did not suffer a medical condition and there appears to be no alcohol or drugs involved,” Honick said.

The road was closed for several hours while the scene was cleared and police worked to reconstruct the accident.
