Barbershop quartet to perform

A barbershop quartet, 3 Rivers 4, will sing a variety of songs from classics to patriotic and inspirational songs, as well as doo-wop from the 1950s and 1960s at 3 p.m. June 26 the Norwin Public Library, 100 Caruthers Lane, Irwin.

The group is a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society. The program is free, but registration is requested. Visit norwinpubliclibrary.net to register or call 724-863-4700, ext. 3.

Irwin nixes alcohol use in park

Irwin officials have rejected a request for use of Irwin Park for a graduation party on Aug. 18 that would have included serving alcohol.

When council considered a motion on June 14 to approve the permit to use the park and serve alcohol, the motion died for a lack of a second.

Council had approved a request in April to use the park for a June birthday party where alcohol would be served.

Suicide prevention training slated

A suicide prevention training program will be held at 6 p.m. June 28 at the Norwin Public Library, 100 Caruthers Lane, Irwin.

QPR Training for Suicide Prevention is an evidence-based program that teaches people about suicide awareness and prevention. QPR is an acronym for Question, Persuade and Refer.

The program is not intended for mental health professionals, but for the public to understand the warnings signs of suicide and how to ask questions, how to encourage people to get assistance and where to find local resource for immediate assistance.

The program is free, but registration is requested. Visit norwinpubliclibrary.net or call 724-863-4700, ext. 3.
