Norwin area: Irwin Clean Up Day; mulch sale; pirohi sale and more

Irwin Community Clean Up Day slated

Irwin Borough will hold its free Community Clean Up Day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 20 at Irwin Park parking lot off Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Waste Management will provide the dumpsters and Westmoreland Cleanways will handle the disposal of electronics, such as desktop computers, laptop computers, computer monitors, computer peripherals and televisions. Refrigerators, tires and fluorescent bulbs will be taken.

No hazardous waste will be accepted, nor will construction debris, concrete, batteries, free flowing liquids, lead-based paint, car parts, medical waste, riding mowers, oil, gas and propane tanks, chemical products and pesticides.

Earth Day park work slated

Earth Day will be celebrated at the Braddock’s Trail Park in North Huntingdon with a work day, removing vines and invasive plants, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. April 22.

Those interested in participating should meet at the park parking lot at 6:30 p.m. Participants are encourage to bring loppers to prune trees or a hand saw, and wear work gloves.

Manor election day food drive

The Manor Lions Club will be collecting non-perishable food on the primary election day on April 23 at the borough’s polling precinct, 44 Main Street.

Donations will go to the Manor Food Pantry, and monetary donations are also welcome.

Church to sell pirohi

St. Stephen Byzantine Catholic Church at 90 Bethel Road, North Huntingdon, will be selling potato and cheese pirohi for $12 a dozen, as well as sweet cabbage pirohi for the same price, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 26, or until all priohi are sold out.

This will be the last pirohi sale at the church until September.

Boy Scouts to sell mulch

Boy Scout Troop 284 of Irwin will sell mulch as a fundraiser for the first two weekends of May.

Two cubic-feet bags of mulch, black, brown and red, will be available for delivery those weekends within the 15642-Zip code area, plus a five-mile surrounding radius.

The minimum order is five bags and each bag is $5. A special bulk order of 25 bags is offered at a discount of $110.

Orders will be accepted online at Troop284Irwin.com or by mail to Boy Scout Troop 284, 617 Main Street, Irwin, PA 15642.
