Money sought for Hahntown playground
North Huntingdon has agreed to apply for state funding through the Local Share Account that receives revenue from casinos, for an $818,000 comprehensive renovation of the playground at the Hahntown Elementary School.
The project proposed by the Norwin School District would involve site preparation, installing sidewalks, picnic tables and benches and safety features. Among the proposed playground equipment would be hillclimber ropes, hill-safety surfacing balls, a Super Dome, a twisty toboggan, a spinning ride and swings. For another $100,000, an outdoor classroom could be created at Hahntown Elementary.
The district also envisions installing special equipment for children with physical disabilities and conditions such as autism. The facilities would be available to the community, when school is not in session.
The money provided through the Commonwealth Financing Authority supports projects in the public interest within counties that host casinos. The Live! casino is located in Hempfield.
