VFW Post 781 plans Veterans Day ceremony
A Manor native who served 35 years in the Navy and was a member of the Blue Angels jet fighter team, is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the Veterans Day ceremonies at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the J. Howard Snyder Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 781, Billot Avenue, North Huntingdon.
Chris Haas of Cook Township, who was deployed several times while in the Navy, was with a strike fighter squadron during part of his service. His final tour of duty was in 2012 at the Naval Air Systems Command. He retired in 2016, after more than 35 years of service.
Haas, a Penn-Trafford graduate, earned designations as a professional aviation maintenance officer, and as an Enlisted Aviation and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist.
The Veterans Day ceremony will include an honor guard, said Kory Bulloch, VFW Post 781 commander.
St. Agnes Church to hold luncheon
The St. Agnes Church Christian Mothers and Ladies Guild will hold a salad luncheon and vendor fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 4 at the parish’s Resurrection Hall at 11400 St. Agnes Lane, North Huntingdon.
The luncheon tickets are $10.
North Huntingdon OKs police purchases
The North Huntingdon police will be getting additional equipment to do their job.
The township commissioners approved a $10,000 grant from the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office to purchase four Special Weapons Attack Team tactical vests. Commissioner Ronald Zona, Westmoreland County chief detective, abstained from voting on distribution of the money from the district attorney’s office.
The township also approved buying software programs from CODY, a Pottstown-based company, that will provide access to the National Crime Information Center, at a cost of $36,995. The police department also will get five camera packages for inside its police cars for $39,300. The department will receive Motorola Solutions radio communications equipment at a cost of $432,299.
Township officials had previously said the funding came through grants the township acquired.
