Norwin briefs: Library to hold genealogy program; Gig on Main set

Norwin library holds programs

Norwin residents have the opportunity to learn about English as a Second Language services and programs in the community during a free presentation at 6 p.m. May 23 at the Norwin Public Library, 100 Caruthers Lane, Irwin,

Cathy Maloney, the ESL coordinator for Calvary Church in North Huntingdon, will conduct the program. Registration is requested.

Information on using the U.S. Census to search for one’s family ancestry is planned for the library at 6 p.m. Sept. 26.

The program reviews available U.S. Census records from 1790 through the recently-released 1950 federal census, and explains what family tree information someone may expect to find in each. Participants will receive a blank copy of each eligible U.S. census form, and instruction on how to access the census using Norwin Public Library’s free online services.

Gig on Main in Irwin slated

Food mixed with music will be featured at the Gig on Main in downtown Irwin from 5 to 11 p.m. Sept. 21.

Singer Justin Sellers will open the entertainment on a stage set up at Fourth and Main streets. The Mazeroskis, a band, will be the second performer, followed by The Clarks.

Several food trucks will be selling food along Main Street.
