VFW Post 781 to dedicate remodeled pavilion

The J. Howard Snyder Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 781 on Billott Avenue in North Huntingdon will dedicate the remodeled Don Kattic Pavilion in a ceremony at noon Sept. 28 at the post.

The 28-year-old pavilion, named at the late VFW commander Don Kattic, was renovated this summer to transform it into a functional space for community gatherings and commemorations. A new roof was installed, along with a new accessible bathroom, redesigned kitchen area and improved landscaping.

VFW Post 381 Commander Kory Bulloch will make remarks at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, along with a representative from the Kattic family, and other dignitaries. There will be a moment of silence to honor fallen soldiers, and a formal dedication of the pavilion to remember Katti, a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, was the post commander for 20 years. He had spearheaded the successful effort to build a veterans’ monument at Norwin High School where he taught for 35 years.

Authors to sell books at Norwin library

The authors of children’s books, young adult books, novels, inspirational books and other genre will be on sale by the authors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Norwin Public Library, 100 Caruthers Lane, Irwin.

The authors scheduled to be at the book fair are: Don Ammon, Victoria Crall, Stephanie Demeis, Susan Helene Gottfried, Lanise Jones, Dazejah Mae, Mary Ann Parfitt, Linda Rettstatt, Katelyn Rushe, Leslie Savisky, Doug Solter, Laurie Sweeney, Joan Wahl and Robert Walicki.

Norwin Days of Giving slated

The Norwin School District Community Foundation will hold its annual Days of Giving to during the school’s homecoming week from Sept. 23 to 29 to raise money for school programs and scholarships for Norwin students.

The campaign is seeking to raise $15,000 to support student scholarships, educator innovation grants to help teachers deliver innovative instruction to enhance student learning and to support improvements to facilities for academics, arts, athletics and activities that will benefit student learning.

Donations can be directed to any of the priorities or any other program or scholarship facilitated by the foundation. Donors also can allow the school community foundation decide where best to direct the money. Since its founding in 2007, the Norwin school foundation as facilitated more than $1.1 million in scholarships to Norwin students.

Choir seeks singers

The Mon Yough Chorale is looking for new singers for their upcoming season.

There are no auditions and anyone is welcome to try for a role in the non-sectarian singing group.

Rehearsals begin from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 15 and continue the same time every Sunday in the fellowship hall at Sampson’s Mills Presbyterian Church, 1655 Lincoln Way, White Oak.
