PennDOT says Parkway East drivers should anticipate intermittent stoppages later this week, when trucks begin delivering beams for the Commercial Street Bridge replacement project.

On Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., trucks will deliver beams for the new bridge.

The trucks will travel on southbound I-79, eastbound on Parkway West and eastbound on Parkway East. The trucks will pull in the plaza outside the suburban side of Squirrel Hill Tunnel.

During the deliveries, westbound I-376 will have multiple intermittent traffic stoppages of approximately 15 minutes near the entrance of the tunnel to allow the trucks to cross the lanes and enter the work area, PennDOT said.

The $95 million project started in June 2024 and is located between the Edgewood/Swissvale interchange, Squirrel Hill Tunnel in Edgewood and Swissvale boroughs, PennDOT said.

As construction continues, PennDOT said there will be beam deliveries that will occur at a later date.
