A woman was killed and a man was critically injured after a minivan collided with a concrete mixer in Pittsburgh’s South Side Slopes on Monday morning.

The woman killed Monday morning in Pittsburgh’s South Side Slopes after the minivan she was riding in collided with a concrete mixer truck has been identified as Roberta Leonard, 55. the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office said Wednesday.

A residence for Leonard was not provided in the medical examiner’s initial report.

Leonard was the only passenger in a minivan that collided with the truck at the intersection of South 18th and Crossman streets, Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesman Maurice Matthews said.

According to police, the two vehicles collided head on. The van then struck a third vehicle parked along the street, coming to a rest wedged between the truck and parked car.

The incident happened at 7:17 a.m., according to the medical examiner. Leonard was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The drivers of the truck and van were injured. Nobody was inside the parked car.

The man who was driving the truck was able to get out on his own, Matthews said. Medics took him to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

The man driving the van with Leonard as his passenger had to be freed by first responders, Matthews said. He was hospitalized and listed in critical condition as of Monday night. An update on the van driver’s condition was not immediately available Wednesday night.

Police shut down South 18th Street in both directions while the department’s Collision Investigation Unit investigated.

Further details about what or who may have caused the crash were not available.

The medical examiner has not yet released an official cause and manner of death for Leonard.
