A female pedestrian was taken to a local hospital in critical condition Monday after being struck by a motorcycle near Pittsburgh’s Shadyside neighborhood, according to a city public safety spokeswoman.
The male driver of the motorcycle also was taken to a hospital, in stable condition with injuries to his jaw, the spokeswoman said. Officials didn’t release the names of the two who were injured or indicate if the driver will face charges.
Just after 6 p.m., city police spotted the motorcycle driver traveling at high speed while weaving in and out of traffic on Fifth Avenue, near South Aiken Avenue, according to the spokeswoman.
Officers activated their lights and sirens in an attempt to pull the motorcyclist over, but he drove up on to the sidewalk, striking the pedestrian. There was no vehicle pursuit by police, the spokeswoman said.
City police are continuing their investigation after having processed evidence and interviewed witnesses at the scene.
