Penn Hills police are investigating an armed robbery at a Sunoco gas station.

Police Chief Ronald Como said the incident occurred at the convenience store near the intersection of Hulton and Poketa roads late Thursday morning.

A man wearing a mask, hoodie and dark clothing entered the store, showed a silver semi-automatic handgun and demanded money, Como said.

The man fled with $3,000 to $4,000 in cash and about $700 worth of cigarettes.

No injuries were reported.

Multiple officers responded to the scene and used a police dog to help track the suspect, but to no avail.

The store was open for business Friday afternoon. A clerk at the counter could not provide information about the incident.

Como said the store was robbed in a similar fashion in November, and both crimes may have been committed by the same man. No one was injured in connection with the November robbery.

Anyone with information about either incident should contact Penn Hills Police Department’s tipline at 412-342-0922 or call 911.
