Mary Havrilla of Forest Hills and her sister, Karen, of Penn Hills walked along a paved path on the abandoned Churchill Valley Country Club property in Penn Hills on March 24.

The sisters let their labrador dogs off their leashes so they could too enjoy the warm March weather.

Allegheny Land Trust had until the end of the month to raise the remaining amount of $3 million to purchase the 148 acres from a commercial developer. The nonprofit organization’s plans include sprucing up the property a bit in order to conserve the land as public green space for recreational use.
