A Marshall-Shadeland man has been accused by Pittsburgh police of fatally shooting one man and wounding another man last month in the city’s Strip District.

Jeffdyn Rushton, 33, was arrested Thursday by Penn Hills police after a traffic stop on charges of illegal possession of firearms, according to court documents.

Rushton was arraigned Friday morning by Pittsburgh District Judge Mike Pappas on charges of criminal homicide, criminal attempt, aggravated assault, persons not to possess a firearm and carrying a firearm without a license, in connection with the death of Joseph Mitchell, 39, of Pittsburgh, according to court documents.

Rushton was denied bail and remains lodged in the Allegheny County Jail, pending a preliminary hearing schedule for Aug. 5.

Mitchell and another man were shot shortly after midnight June 26. They were transported to a Pittsburgh hospital in critical condition. The current condition of the other victim was not revealed.

Additional details were not available.
