A Verona faces woman kidnapping and other charges for taking a daughter over whom she did not have custody to Illinois, according to police.
Brandi Bailey, 34, is charged with kidnapping, burglary, interfering with the custody of a child, concealing the whereabouts of a child and endangering the welfare of a child – all felonies.
According to the criminal complaint, Bailey lost custody of her toddler daughter late last month after she was charged with child endangerment. Part of Bailey’s bail meant she could not have contact with the toddler, who went to live with her grandmother.
The grandmother contacted Penn Hills police about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to report that Bailey had taken the child, according to the complaint. She said Bailey stopped by the home about 7 p.m. Tuesday and took off with the toddler while the grandmother was in the basement doing laundry.
It was not immediately clear why the woman waited until Wednesday morning to report the incident.
Police said the grandmother used the Find My iPhone app to track Bailey to Illinois before Bailey turned off the phone’s location services. Investigators contacted the cell phone provider, which placed Bailey in Collinsville, Illinois.
Court records did not indicate when an extradition hearing might be held, nor did they list a defense attorney for Bailey.
Collinsville police found Bailey and the toddler at a Days Inn in the town, more than 600 miles from Penn Hills.
