Penn-Trafford area: Mad Science Spooktacular, crocheting and more
Mad Science Spooktacular
The Penn-Trafford Area Recreation Commission will host a Mad Science Spooktacular program from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4.
The event, open to children ages 5 to 12, will apply science to a Halloween-themed story about Count Eggbert — a vampire who struggles to fit into his coffin after a night of feasting. Participants also will create their own glow-in-the-dark slime to take home.
The event will be held at the Penn Township Ambulance Center, located at 1030 Sandy Hill Road in Penn Township. To register, visit ptarc.org.
Crochet-a-thon
The Penn Area Library in Penn Township will host a crochet event for people of all ages at 11 a.m. Oct. 5.
Participants will crochet granny squares that will be stitched into blankets for cats at the Ninth Life Rescue Center based in Greensburg. The event will be held at the library, at 2001 Municipal Court.

Heritage cookies eent
The Baltzer Meyer Historical Society will host a presentation on cookie recipes used throughout history from countries across the world on Oct. 5.
Scott and Kate Pavele, authors of the cookbook “Heritage Cookies,” will host the event. It will run from 2 to 4 p.m. at the historical society, located at 642 Baltzer Meyer Pike in Hempfield. Refreshments will be served.

Penn Area Library yoga
The Penn Area Library in Penn Township will host a series of yoga sessions throughout October. The sessions will take place at 10 a.m. on Oct. 7, 21 and 28 in the library’s community room. Registration, which can be completed by calling the library, is required.
East Suburban Citizen Advocacy fundraiser
Nonprofit East Suburban Citizen Advocacy will host a fundraiser Oct. 19 at the YMCA of Laurel Highlands in Mt. Pleasant.
A local artist will lead the fundraiser, guiding people of all ages and abilities in painting a fall pumpkin scene. Sessions will begin at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the YMCA, located at 490 Bessemer Road.
Registration costs $40, which includes all painting supplies and light refreshments. Basket raffles also will be available. To register, visit EastSuburbanCitizenAdvocacy.org/events and select the Oct. 19 event.
Proceeds will benefit the programs offered free of charge by the nonprofit, which promotes and supports people with developmental disabilities.
Halloween costume party
The Penn-Trafford Area Recreation Commission will host a family Halloween costume party on Oct. 19.
The event will run 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Manor Borough building’s Community Room, located at 44 Main Street in Manor. Music, treats, a food truck, dancing and crafts can be expected.
Registration, which costs $10 for residents and $18 for non-residents, can be completed at ptarc.org.
Bigfoot presentation
