The number of new confirmed covid cases in the Penn-Trafford-Jeannette area dropped a bit over the last week, with 16 new cases in the seven-day period ending March 2 — down from 16 the week prior, according to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Since the pandemic began in March, the six ZIP codes covering most of the three communities have seen a total of 1,715 confirmed cases as of March 2, up from 1,699 on Feb. 23.

Residents of these six ZIP codes have taken a total of 9,551 coronavirus tests, 18% of which were positive. Since Feb. 23, 133 test results have been reported, 12% of which were positive.

The breakdown of cases by ZIP code is:

  • Jeannette, ZIP code 15644: 920 confirmed cases, eight new cases this week, 481 probable cases, 4,359 negative test results
  • Trafford, ZIP code 15085: 403 confirmed cases, four new cases this week, 162 probable cases, 1,833 negative test results
  • Harrison City: ZIP code 15636, 218 confirmed cases, two new cases this week, 95 probable cases, 886 negative test results
  • Manor, ZIP code 15665: 92 confirmed cases, one new case this week, 49 probable cases, 321 negative test results

  • Claridge, ZIP code 15623: 38 confirmed cases, no new cases this week, 10 probable cases, 220 negative test results

A significant portion of Penn Township is grouped under the Irwin 15642 ZIP code. That ZIP code has seen a total of 2,628 confirmed cases, up 41 from the week prior.

Penn-Trafford School District has reported a total of 129 covid cases since the school year began, with one new case — a student at Harrison Park Elementary School — being reported in the last week.

Westmoreland County has had a total of 18,988 confirmed cases, 7,876 probable cases, 673 covid deaths and 86,992 negative tests since the start of the pandemic.

A large spike in cases in the county began in September and peaked Dec. 10 with 747 positive cases in a single day. Case counts have been declining steadily, but remain above pre-September levels.
