Trunk or Treat

Pine and Richland residents are invited to the Community Trunk or Treat from noon-3 p.m. Oct. 22 in Pine Community Park (Pearce Mill Road entrance). Kids will trick or treat, play games and decorate pumpkins. There will also be food trucks and a bounce house. Participating children must be registered by Oct. 18. Cost is $3 per child if they are a Pine or Richland resident, or $6 if they are a non-resident. Register online at twp.pine.pa.us. This registration does not sign parents up to be a “trunk.”

Spike Out Cancer

Pine-Richland girls’ volleyball team’s Spike Out Cancer event has been moved to 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at the PRHS gymnasium during their home game against North Allegheny. Various activities will be conducted throughout the evening to acknowledge all types of cancers, to raise money to support cancer research, and, most importantly, to honor cancer survivors, and to commemorate individuals lost.

Dyslexia simulation event

Dyslexia Awareness Month aims to support students with this specific learning difficulty. Dyslexia is a learning impairment that causes problems with reading, writing and spelling. The intelligence of people with dyslexia is unaffected. In order to help facilitate more understanding and awareness about this learning difficulty, Pine-Richland School District is offering a dyslexia simulation event Oct. 25 hosted by the International Dyslexia Association of Pennsylvania. Stations will be set up to learn more about how dyslexia can impact daily functioning when in school. The event will take place at Eden Hall Upper Elementary School from 5:45-8 p.m. The event will kick off in the LGA room and then attendees will break into five different stations in the library and community room that will provide hands-on experiences to mimic what a student or person with dyslexia may endure when completing school-related tasks. Learn more and register at pinerichland.org.

Pig roast

Deer Creek Presbyterian Church will hold its annual pig roast from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Oct. 30. Cost is $12 for adults; $6 for ages 6-16; under 6 free. Take-out is available and a multi-basket Chinese raffle will be held. The church is located at 33 Bairdford Road in Gibsonia.

Trick or Treat

Trick or Treat in Pine and Richland townships will be from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Fall leaf pickup

Richland’s fall leaf pick-ups will be Oct. 18, Nov. 8 and Nov. 29; or Oct. 20, Nov. 10 and Dec. 1 depending on which day residents’ garbage pick-up occurs. The service is provided to reduce the impact of leaves on the municipal stormwater system, streams and wetlands. All bags must be out prior to 6 a.m. on the day of pickup. All leaves, garden residue and cuttings must be in biodegradable paper bags with each bag limited to 40 lbs. Tree trimmings (no larger than three inches in diameter and smaller than 48 inches in length) must be tied/bound into manageable bundles. For more information, visit richland.pa.us.
